I've experimented with many different ways to try and gain speed, but honestly the slow singles over 30-40 minutes helped me a lot in the early stages, now I do 20 minute warmup at about 70bpm and then do 1 minute blocks of 16ths per hand ranging from 120-150 bpm. Some days Im hardly able to play a clean measure of 16ths at 135 when other days I'll go as quick as 160. But definitely the longer slower runs are a big part of my development, and it was champs Tom Grosset and Matt Smith who told me to do the long runs. It shaped my fingers and developed muscle memory.
